Sacral heritage

In the year 2015, Knin got a new, magnificent church. As a link to history, the present and the future, the new church in Knin carries the title of Our Lady of the Great Croatian Baptismal Testament after the ancient portrait called Our Lady of the Great Testament, which is the oldest known figure of the Blessed Virgin Mary, found in Biskupija near Knin.
The church represents a link between the Croatian Kingdom and the Catholic faith that has been living in the Croatian people since their arrival to these areas up to this day. This church is also the link of the Croatian people to their centuries-old aspirations for their own country and freedom, as well as the link to the Knin Fortress, whose appearance has been followed by the church, which received a regional award for public space at the International Property Awards 2016.

The Our Lady’s Church makes a convenient place where the citizens of Knin may celebrate God and which they may proudly represent to their guests. The Church of Saint Anthony has been another sacral symbol of Knin. Its building began in the 18th century, and it has been rebuilt and restored several times since then.
There are two more Catholic churches in Knin: St. Joseph and St. James, and the two Orthodox ones: the Cover of the Holy Virgin and St. George.
